Biography
I
would like to thank all my friends for encouraging me to put
together this collection of my recordings and photographs.
"The Music of my Life" allows me to share
many of my most cherished memories with you.
From the time I was a little girl in Buenos Aires, Argentina,
music has been my companion, my comfort, my support and my
inspiration. Therefore, for those close to me it came as no
surprise that I became more and more involved in music. The
first person that put me in f ront
of a microphone was my dear mother, Maria, when I was three
years old. The image of her holding me on a stool to reach
the microphone in order to record my "first album",
foreshadowed my destiny in the musical field. For me, the
two songs recorded on that occasion are like a hidden treasure,
which I kept to myself for many years. They are being published
for the first time in this special collection, so that I can
share this tender moment with my friends.
At the ripe old age of 4, I started my musical education at
the National Conservatory
of Music in Buenos Aires. For the next 14 years, I had studies
and recitals in various subjects, majoring in voice and piano,
concurrent with my regular school curriculum. Consequently,
I did not have time to participate in the typical activities
that other young girls enjoyed. At the age of 18, I not only
graduated from high school, but I also received a Masters
Degree in Music with a major in both Piano and Voice from
the Conservatory.
At
the age of 19, I was selected as the best amateur singer of
Argentina by "Radio Libertad", and I began
my professional musical career in Buenos Aires by recording
several albums as a vocalist with the Microfon label. It was
at this point that I took the stage name of Marina Dorell.
The sale of the records went so well that I became
an artist with RCA Records, which truly launched my international
singing career.
I moved to Mexico City and expanded my profession by
acting in films, theatre and television, and directing TV
programs for the Televisa Mexico Network. For some years,
I worked as a freelance contractor
for Televisa Mexico. During this period, I also performed
at numerous live concerts in many European capitals and various
cities in the Orient, Latin America, and the United States,
often before large audiences in stadiums and amphitheaters.
I recorded the first Spanish/English version of the
song "Dont Cry For Me Argentina", from
the musical "Evita". I am very pleased my
version continues to be included in several romantic CD collections.
This project will always hold a very special place in my heart
because Eva Peron is such an important part of my Argentine
history.
One day, I moved to California to pursue a dream I had for many years; to
obtain an educational degree in a field of human service so that I could
help others. I chose the field of Psychology. Over the course of the next
eleven years, I obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, a
Doctorate in Human Behavior and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and
I established a private practice. During all this time, I continued my
work with Televisa Mexico. They contracted me to produce, direct,
and host investigative reporting programs aimed at the Hispanic audience
in the USA and dealing with a series of social and community interests.
One of these was capped by a two-hour live program entitled "AIDS
in the Latin Community", followed by several segments on "Child
Abuse and Street Children". My in-depth investigative reporting
created a strong interest in the subject and generated a very positive
response from the community. Also, Televisa signed me up to direct, to
host and coordinate the five-hour live "Miss Baja California Beauty
Pageant" show. During the course of the program, I also sang
and entertained the audience.
Then later on, Televisa Mexico asked me to produce and host a live program using my professional
expertise in the field of psychology. Listeners would call in to receive
help with their questions and personal problems. This program became very
successful in addressing specific community problems.
I was much honored that Univision also invited me to participate in a series of live programs where I presented their audience solutions to cope
with many different physiological issues.
As a professional entertainer, I have had numerous opportunities throughout
my career to help and assist the Hispanic people. Now that I am a psychologist,
I see many beneficial ways to combine both of my careers to better serve
the needs of not only the Latino community, but also other groups. Hopefully,
by sharing our love, support and some heartfelt songs we may all look
toward a brighter future.
